Week 38

We have been lucky enough to welcome two special visitors to 1BeM this week. On Wednesday, Kristina (Miko's big sister) visited us to share her passion for Touch Rugby. We heard all how she first started playing the game and how she has progressed through various teams to represent Singapore's all star squad! The children were full of questions and were delighted to discover that their very own Mrs. Thomson is Kristina's coach!! Thanks for sharing your passion (and your many medals!) with us, Kristina...and good luck with the rest of the season.

Later in the week, we welcomed Eriko (Rina'm mum) who told us all about the Japanese celebration of Children's Day. After hearing all about this special occasion, we tried our hand at making our own Japanese warrior helmet's out of newspaper...with a LOT of help from Rina! We also tasted some delicious Japanese delicacies. Thank you, Eriko!

This week saw the much awaited "Big Debate" finally take place in 1BeM. The children divided into teams and debated the pros and cons of the proposed Cross Island Line right here in Singapore. The children were asked to put their own views aside for the duration of the debate and take on an asigned role...which they did with aplomb! We had one group determined to tunnel right through the middle of the Central Catchment Area, another trying to persuade everyone to skirt around the edge of it and, a third group trying to dissuade us all from constructing another MRT line in the first place.

It was a very heated debate but, thankfully, it remained extremely civil and everyone listened to each other's points of view. We are currently editing a video of 'highlights' and hope to publish it soon.

We are all very much looking forward to our Character Morning Tea next Wednesday. Please remember that this is not for parents (sorry!) but the children are invited to come to school dressed as a favourite book character. We would far rather they created their outfits using what they have available to them at home...and a whole heap of imagination! We are remain “in character” all morning and it promises to be a lot of fun. Please do not forget to bring a little something for the morning tea to share with the class (no nuts and no pork).

Next Tuesday morning parents are welcome to join us for our Love Your Lungs session. From 10.10-10.40am, 1BeM will be working as a team to see how many laps they can complete of the course. The session will involve running, swimming and cycling around the Infant playground and pool. Please make sure you send their swimmers on that day and a towel...and it might be a good idea to apply suncream as it has been pretty hot recently! Looking forward to seeing you there.

Lastly, please do take note of all the dates below as there is so much happening over the final weeks of the school year.
