Tuesday’s ‘“Love Your Lungs’” morning was a fabulous event. The children thoroughly enjoyed swimming, biking and running around the challenging course. The focus was very much on working as a team and, of course, promoting healthy choices. It was great to have so many parents and our 4PBa buddies cheering us on. Although the number of laps was of secondary importance, collectively, the Grade 1 children completed a staggering 640 laps...and 1BeM contributed 107 of those!! We certainly earned our ice-lollies! Everyone is feeling very proud of themselves and, hopefully, the morning will encourage people to take action themselves. A big thank you to the wonderful P.E. team for organising this showcase of everything the students have been exploring in their P.E. sessions.
A big thank you to Imelda (Miko's mum) who visited our class before our "Love Your Lungs" challenge. She worked with groups to prepare and bake delicious pizzas to make sure we had enough energy to complete our herculean task.
Thursday's Character Morning Tea was another fabulous event. The children came to school “in character” and it was wonderful to observe how much thought and time had gone into everyone’s preparation. We had three Willy Wonkas, Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood, Geronimo Stilton, Alex the dog, Nya, Tom Sawyer, BB8, Captain America, Horrid Henry, Nancy Clancy, Cherie Stone, Nala, Mr Happy, Zara, Gerald, Jack, Sherlock Sam and a couple of Dirty Berties!! There was also a tiger moaning about wanting tea all the time and a strange old lady called Strega Nona. Let’s hope the morning inspires the children to transfer this enthusiasm and energy to their own writing.
Next week, we will be celebrating Service Week across the Infant School. The children will explore what Service means and why it is important to have a commitment to care, as well as how we can all be of Service to others. We will be refocusing on our ongoing Service initiatives as well as thinking collectively about the upcoming Infant Service Trip to Kuma Cambodia and the role of the Grade 1 Ambassadors...Rina, Sam and Apple from 1BeM.
We are hoping to take some specific donations to the school which will be given out in the local communities. If you have any of the following items we would love to take them to Kuma where they will be gratefully received.
-children’s clothes (baby to age 12)
-new underwear
-pre-loved (but in good condition!) shorts, t-shirts, skirts, dresses, light sweatshirts, sandals and swimmers
We will also be making up packs of toiletries/stationery for the children, so, please feel free to send in any of the following:
- soap, facecloths, combs, hairbrushes, toothpaste, hair ties, clips
- new pencils, pens, small rulers, small erasers
This week, we have continued to explore money and have also been thinking about the concept of time. Money is a great medium to explore counting as the children learn to identify coins and notes of different denominations. The 1BeM Cafe officially opened it's doors this week and is proving a very popular spot for coffee and cake...you might want to double check your change though!
