Week 40

Service is one of the five elements of a UWCSEA education and our "Service Week" was a chance to celebrate and promote this very special aspect of life at our school. The week saw the culmination of 1BeM's projects and initiatives to support the Kuma community in Cambodia.

Our "Book-Book-Tuk-Tuk" logo design is now in the hands of a graphic designer and will, hopefully, be making it's way electronically to Cambodia any day now to be converted to a sticker to dress the side of the mobile library ahead of its maiden voyage. The theme tune for the BBTT, composed and played by 1BeM, has now been recorded and, again, is en route to Cambodia where the plan is for it to play over the BBTT's speakers announcing its arrival in each village. 

Our educational posters to show the villagers the many creative ways they might resuse their plastic bottles have been copied and are ready for the Kuma ambassadors to distribute next week. Lastly, our "A Day in the Life of 1BeM" is finished and ready to be copied and shared with the G1 Kuma children to give them an idea of what school life is like for us in Singapore.

Our Kuma ambassadors are all set for their wonderful adventure next Thursday. During Service Week, each ambassador led a team of 1BeMers to create and design a game for them to take with them on their trip. They will introduce, explain and play this game with their Kuma buddies and, then, leave it with them to play with their friends. We have also created a "message of friendship" from 1BeM which will be added to a "Friendship Blanket" to be donated to the Kuma School during next week's visit.

On top of all this, we still found the time to bake and distribute red and blue "Kuma Kookies," with a lot of help from Miko's mum (Imelda). We decided to give the treats to our friends in K1 and K2 as a way of making them smile! We also enjoyed dropping in uninvited in a variety of classes across the school to deliver flashmob style "Kuma Kuddles," again, to bring a smile to people's faces and to raise awareness of our GC.

We have also been busy making flags to wave Sam, Rina and Apple off on Thursday morning.

Don't forget to send in any donations tomorrow morning (or Tuesday at the latest) as the ambassadors will be packing boxes on Tuesday afternoon.
