Week 42

Thank you all so much for taking part in Wednesday's Student-Led Conferences. We hope the day gave you a valuable insight into your child's ongoing learning and that you enjoyed celebrating their achievements and discussing their goals.

It was particularly pleasing to hear such rich and meaningful conversations around the activities and provocations. We heard so many guiding and insightful questions and look forward to using these to inform our teaching and learning going forward. The children were so excited in the lead up to the day and were, rightly, feeling very proud of themselves afterwards.

This week, we have continued our preparations for our transition to Grade 2. On Monday, we enjoyed the opportunity to eat our lunch in the canteen and will repeat this a few more times over the final weeks of term. On Friday, we were invited to our very first G2 Assembly (without the G1 teachers!) and found out a little bit more about all of the G2 teachers and TAs. Thankfully, they all seem very nice!

We are really looking forward to The Sleepover on Thursday. We are talking about this a lot at the moment and, even though we are super excited, some of us are still a little anxious about it all. This is absolutely fine. We have discussed how we are all there for each other and will make sure we support our classmates to make sure we all have a good time together. A reminder to please return the slip and money for breakfast if you have not already done so.

A very heartfelt congratulations to Rina, Sam and Apple, the 1BeM Kuma Ambassadors. They did such a wonderful job in Cambodia. They represented our class (and the school) impeccably and the experience, though challenging at times, will certainly remain with them for many years to come. We look forward to hearing and sharing their thoughts and reflections next week now that they have had a little time to digest it all.

In Mathematics, we are having a wonderful time exploring 3D shapes and their attributes. We are using different media to enhance our learning including clay, matchsticks, blocks and...wait for it...Minecraft!

Our "Independent Literacy Projects" are getting longer and stronger every day. We are even thinking about sharing them with the G2 teachers. This week, we have focused on revising and editing as we write, as oppose to doing this when we are "finished."

Lastly, we had a very special time with our buddies in the Junior Art Room this week where Mr. Betts allowed us to pour paint all over the tables!!! It was a great way to explore printing...although we did have to clean up afterwards.
