Week 2

Welcome to the 1BeM Class Blog! Here you will find out all about life in and around the classroom, details of our ongoing inquiry and units of study, special events and, hopefully, lots of photos and evidence of our learning. 

The children have settled in extremely well to life in G1 and a special mention must go to our new 1BeM friends Apple and Ayana who seem very at home already. We have spent the first two weeks getting to know each other, establishing Essential Agreements and our responsibilities within the class. Our first Unit of Study, "Communities," will explore this in more detail as we think about the difference between needs and wants and how communities work together to address this. We will find out more about the communities we belong to, the different roles people have and, most importantly, the part we can play.

We have enjoyed meeting our buddy class (4PBa) and are excited about getting together with them over the course of the year. Last week, we enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt across the Infant Campus with them (using the iPads) and, this week, we interviewed each other to find out more about our likes and dislikes.

As part of our inquiry, your child has brought home a "Mystery Bag" today. As the instructions suggest, your child is invited to place no more than 3 items in this bag to share with the class. The three things should tell us a little bit more about them, your family, your community or something that is special to them. The 3 items must fit inside the bag. For example, a plane ticket from a memorable trip, a photo of something or someone precious or anything that means a lot to them. It would be great if you could also decorate the bag and make it special.

They will be bringing these items back home (eventually) but please do not send anything too fragile, irreplaceable or expensive.

Lastly, I am very pleased to announce that Imelda de Villa (Miko's mum) has kindly volunteered to be our Class Parent this year...thank you, Imelda!
