Week 32

Our ideas to help and support the Kuma community are slowly taking shape. The logo group has now "chosen" their favourite designs for the Book-Book-Tuk-Tuk and Mr. Morley is ready to share them with the team in Cambodia. The poster group has completed their wonderful and informative posters for the villages, showcasing many ways to reuse plastic bottles. The writing group is in the middle of creating non-fiction books for our Kuma friends about life at UWCSEA and are focusing on taking photos to document a typical day in Grade 1. Lastly, the song writing group has been recording ideas for a short, repeating piece of happy music to announce the arrival of the BBTT to the villages. All of these projects still require our attention and we will be revisiting them over the coming weeks...even as our attention shifts to out new "Life Links" Unit of Study.

It is also great to see that the children are taking their Service learning out into the world and taking initiative in their own way. This week, Rina shared a wonderful presentation on drought and the things we can do to both prevent drought and support people affected by it.

As always, it was lovely to see our Happy Lodge friends again this week. The children are really starting to make connections now and it is lovely to see relationships developing over time. It was particularly fascinating to watch our elderly friends interact with iPads this week which, for almost every single one of them, was w wholly new experience.

This week, we have been putting the finishing touches to our Informational Writing books ready to publish, celebrate and share with the world. We have also been self-assessing our writing to recognise our achievements and, also, to see how and where we might improve in the future.

In Mathematics, we have been enjoying creating repeating and growing patterns in a huge variety of creative and imaginative ways. We have been thinking about how to isolate the unit in a repeating pattern and make, describe and extend repeating and growing patterns. 

Lastly, a very Happy Easter to all our families who will be celebrating over the coming days. We wish you all a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing you all again in April for the final term in Grade 1.
