Week 16

UN Day on Thursday was a HUGE success. We are so proud of the children and feel each and every one of them did a wonderful job. Of course, a performance is nothing without an audience, so, thank you to all of you for supporting us on the day and for coming back to the classroom afterwards to meet the stars and join in our "String Connections" game! We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we all did.

Wednesday's visit to Happy Lodge was another highlight of the week. This time, we enjoyed creating Christmas decorations with the residents and a big thank you once again to all the 1BeM parents who came along to help out. Next week, we are looking forward to hosting a group of Happy Lodge residents in our very own Infant Hall. There are a few surprises in store for everyone!

In the classroom, our focus has shifted towards the following Essential Questions:

*Why is it important to maintain a healthy body?

*Whose responsibility is it to maintain a healthy body?

*How would your life be different if you did not have a healthy body? 

As we reflect on the unit, we are thinking about how we will use our newfound understanding in the future. Next week, we will record some of our ideas about the "healthy holiday choices" we are planning to make. We will also revisit our “Think 1, Think 2” Thinking Routine to record (hopefully) just how far our thinking has moved over the course of the inquiry.

This week, we have been revising and editing our (many!) poems and beginning to fix and fancy them up ready to share with all of you next week. In Reading Workshop, we are busy recording our latest entries in our “My Reading Year” on the iPads. It is fascinating to listen back over the previous months and hear how we are becoming more expressive and fluent readers with time.

In Mathematics, we have been focusing on subtraction stories and exploring different strategies to help us solve subtraction problems in a clear and efficient manner. Once again, we are discovering that recording your thinking on paper can be quite challenging but we are enjoying experimenting with different ways to illustrate our thinking and, effectively, show our working.

*Tuesday 8th December-Happy Lodge Visit to UWCSEA-9.00-10.30am-Infant Hall

*Wednesday 9th December-PTCs Day- 8.00am-5.00pm-G1 classrooms-Remember, this is a NO STUDENT DAY!

*Wednesday 9th December-PA Carols by Candlelight-6.30pm-7.30pm-Main Plaza-Fun for family and friends. Bring your own picnic and rug. PA Bar will be open.

*Thursday 10th December-G1 Disco- 12.30-1.05pm-Infant Hall-The G1 children are allowed to come to school in their own clothes on this day!

*Friday 11th December-END OF TERM 1!-SCHOOL ENDS AT 11.00am for the Infants.
